Our client (George) purchased a brand new wellcraft bow rider in 1995 with a v6 mercruser with a 1 year manufacturers warranty. On one of his first fishing trips he and his son found their fishing spot, slowed the boat down, anchored up and tried to catch some bluefish. After he slowed the boat down the engine sputtered and stalled, it would not restart so he had to be towed in. Two days later Tom took the boat back to the dealership were he purchased the boat and explained the situation the told him they would look at it. Five days later the technician at the dealership told him that the engine injected water because Tom had stopped the boat too quickly and water entered the motor thru the exhaust. After he discussed this problem with us we suggested he bring the boat to a mercruiser servicing dealer. It has been our experience that some of the dealerships that concentrate on boat sales to not provide good costumer support after the sale. A servicing dealer’s main source of income is service, they therefore are more motivated to repair your boat. After the servicing dealer sent the damaged part of the inboard outboard to the factory, mercruiser concluded that the damage was caused by defective manifolds and paid for a complete replacement of the engine.
