Subject: Spring Commissioning
As we discussed you are scheduled for your spring commissioning the weekend of 4/28 - 4/29 If you have not performed the spring start up yet please respond “have not performed yet” and this e-mail will be automatically sent to you until you respond “spring start up done” This is when we recommend you change your spark plugs. Please # each spark and mail to:
Marine-Maintance.com
364 Rope Ferry rd.
Waterford ct 06385
We will then analyze your plugs to ensure that your outboard is running correctly. Your used spark plugs can tell us many things that prevent future engine failure. We will be using the plugs you sent us last year as a point of reference. If your technician is performing your spring start-up this year please insist that he return the old plugs to so we can use them in our analysis.
Jim, know that it is July 1st hopefully you have had time use you boat a few times. Please take some time to compare the rpm, temp, and tachometer readings from last year. We would like you to perform these tasks because we have found that many changes can take place over the winter that can affect your boat’s performance. These changes can point to problems that will cause extreme damage to your boat engine. Most of our clients will not notice any from one season to the next with out a point of reference. Last season we had you provide your rpm at wide open throttle with your motor fully trimmed out, the reading you provided was 5500 rpm. Please fill in this year’s rpm reading at WOT (Wide Open Throttle)
Your temp at WOT was 125 degrees last season. Please fill in this years temp at WOT ___________
Last summer your boat plained at 3300 rpm. What did your boat plain at this year? ___________
Last year your idle temp (must be at idle for at lest 10 minutes) was 160 degrees. What was your idle temp this year? __________
Last year’s volt reading at WOT was 14volts. What is the volt reading this year at WOT? ________
Last year’s volt reading at idle was 13 volts. What is this year’s volt reading at idle? ________
Last year your volt meter read 12.75 with the key on and the motor not running. What is the volt meter reading this year with the key on and the motor not running? ____
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with the information in the last e-mail. Using our experience and comparing the reading with last years reading these are the suggestions we have.
Your spark plugs are burning evenly so it looks like the fuel to air mixture is corrected. The plaining rpm is with in 10% of last year and that is more than acceptable. The WOT rpm is 5500 and that is the same as last year, also a very good sign.
You may have a problem with your batteries, your volt meter read 12.75 last year. This year it has drop to 11.75. Please have your technician preform a load test on your batteries.
Everything else seems great. Good job on your report!
